October 2016 Newsletter
Hello and Goodbye
We would like to give a warm welcome to Tiegan and Lachlan who are joining our Upper Baby Room, Zinachika who is joining our Lower Baby room and David who is joining our Red room. Also a big hello to Olivia, Khalid, and Ariel who joined us in late September and a welcome back to Aretha who is returning to us at the end of the month. We would like to welcome them to Bay Tree House and we hope they enjoy their time with us.
This month we have to say a sad goodbye to Kirsty who is leaving our Red room as they are moving. We would like to wish the whole family all the very best in their new home and good luck with the new baby.
Celebrating the Diversity within our Nursery
Throughout October we will continue looking at The United States of America as our country of interest. The children are learning about the currency used, traditional costumes, what colours are in the American flag and different foods that are popular from there. If you are interested in providing any information or would like to come in and cook to help us make this really interesting for the children please speak to your child’s keyworker.
Theme of the month
The children have been looking at people who help us and the changes in Autumn as their themes for September and October. They will be learning about the different emergency services, the job roles involved and what they do to help us.
Annual trip to Woburn Safari Park
Our annual trip this year was to Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire. Everyone had a brilliant time and a selection of the photos are on display in the hall. One monkey tried to escape on the roof of our coach and a park keeper had to direct us to the side while she used a large pole to coax the monkey off. We saw a tiger relaxing up to his neck in a watering hole, Elephants blowing kisses and then walking in line holding each other’s tails and a Lemur that took a fancy to Elizabeth and jumped on her. There was lots of play areas for the children and an indoor soft play area too. Thank you to Sandra for coming into work at 6am to prepare the lunch we took with us. It was enjoyed by all.
We are currently seeking to expand our services and have acquired another property at 46 Bromley Rd. Our application for planning permission has been submitted to Lewisham and we are asking parents for their support in our quest for these premises to go ahead as a nursery. We have put letters out to all parents with details on how you can help. If you require any further information please see Maria.
Our last inset day of the year is on Wednesday 19th October and we are inviting the parents to attend. We have hired the function room in the Jubilee ground on Canadian Avenue and have an independent EYFS consultant and trainer coming in to speak about how staff and parents can work in partnership together and an introduction to maths. We had an inset day last year involving the parents and it was a big success, which was why we have arranged a similar training. We will also be providing a buffet lunch.
We have our last Parents Evening of the year coming up so please look out for the appointment times that will be on your child’s classroom door. If you are new to the nursery and this is your first Parents evening you just need to pick a ten minute time slot and insert your child’s name.
A reminder to all parents that if you leave your pushchairs in the buggy shed they need to be folded down. If any are left open they will be removed from the shed and left on the drive. We are also noticing that scooters/bikes and other ride on toys are also being left and ask that you avoid bringing these to nursery. If any are found in the shed we will put them in the garden for the children to use.
