Newsletter February 2018

February 2018

We would like to say a big hello to Risian and Casca who have joined the Nursery.  We welcome you both to the Bay Tree House family and hope you enjoy your time with us.

Celebrating the Diversity within our Nursery

In February we will continue looking at India as our Country of interest. For January’s meal of the month, following our Indian theme, Sandra made Pilau Rice, Lamb Curry and Naan bread.  This was enjoyed by all. If any parent/carers have any input, facts, activities or are indeed from India there are many ways you can get involved.  Reading a story in your home language or singing songs can be great for the children who speak the same language as well as the children who don’t. If you would like to cook a traditional Indian meal or even do a cooking activity with the children please let your child’s keyworker know

Themes and Events

Blue, Red and Yellow rooms will continue their theme of ‘The Human Body’ and the baby rooms will continue experimenting with colours, shapes and musical instruments throughout February. The children will also be making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, celebrating Valentine’s day on the 14th and from the 16th Chinese New Year.  This year is the year of the Dog.

Yellow Room

The staff in Yellow room would like to thank their parents for completing the ‘Home Learning’ set for them.  It was lovely to see the children’s family photos which are now up on the wall in the room if parents wish to see them.

Transport Trip

The Transport trip went ahead on the 22nd January and was a huge success. We could not have asked for better weather, even the sun came out for us! The day was very relaxed and the children enjoyed learning about the different methods of transport we adventured on. A train guard at East Croydon allowed the children to speak into her radio and a kind staff member on the river bus gave the children all an activity book each.  If you would like to see the pictures there is a book in Blue room that we have had made of our day out.

For the parents of children in Blue Room that attend the weekly swimming session, can you please ensure your child has the following items:  A rucksack, swimwear, towel and arm bands.  If your child arrives on swimming day with any of the above items missing we will not be able to take him/her.

Outdoor Play / Clothing

We have been experiencing some very wet weather over the last month but this should not stop your child from having fun playing outdoors. Can you please make sure they have the appropriate clothing and that they have a pair of wellingtons that can be left at Nursery.  Any other bags or rucksacks that have been left on your child’s peg need to be taken home and only their Blue bags left on their pegs.

School Applications

For those Parents that had to submit school applications on the 15th January you will receive your offers by email on the 16th April (if you applied online) or by post around this date. If this is the school you want, then all offers must be accepted by 30th April.  As soon as you find out what school your child has been given you need to let your child’s keyworker know. Our aim will be to make the transition to school as easy as possible. We will arrange to visit the school with your child to compile a book for them and we will have stories about starting school.

Want to get involved?

Upper baby room are planning to make a musical feature wall in the garden for all the children to use. They will be attaching everyday metal objects to a wooden frame that the children can experiment making different sounds with. They have asked if any parents have any old metal pots, pans, sieves etc. that they would like to send in for this project so that the children can have an input to the construction of the idea. We can’t wait to see it take shape!
